Embedded in teams across the company, strategy professionals explore complex business issues; conduct consumer, competitive and market analyses; create financial models and develop action plans. The Strategic Planning teams help write the future of sport by charting Nike's path forward.


The Director, Innovation Strategy plays an essential role in helping Nike build upon its rich history of delivering innovative performance product all athletes. This role works directly with the senior leadership of Innovation and Nike executives to develop and execute long-term growth strategies to drive innovation across Nike.

The role supports NXT Apparel Innovation and works with a cross-functional product creation team of innovators to explore and invent new ideas and concepts in industries in and beyond apparel to create distinction and separation in the Apparel business. The leader will drive clarity around strategic priorities for NXT Apparel, elevate process to ensure maximum impact, and optimize for Innovation and Nike in total.

This is a unique role, blending left-brain and right-brain skills, and marrying business and strategic rigor and operations discipline with an innovator's know-no-boundaries creativity. It requires a flexible thinker and outstanding communicator who is comfortable with ambiguity, working cross-functionally, and influencing.

Director, Innovation Strategy
  • Work with the Apparel leadership team to create, analyze, prioritize, and execute against its strategic roadmap
  • Work closely with the Innovation Finance team and across the Innovation Strategy team to align strategies and optimize for the entire portfolio
  • Write the Future: Develop a functional vision to further the enterprise strategy and better serve consumers
  • Quarterback the Offense: For NXT Apparel, lead the annual planning and strategic planning process
  • Be the Chief of Staff: Become a thought partner for the Apparel leadership team around Strategic Priorities
  • Lead select cross-functional initiatives, liaising with functional leaders and lending a diverse skillset of planning, analytics, strategic thought leadership and communication
  • Work with the broader Innovation Strategy Team and internal stakeholders across Nike to ensure NXT Apparel's work is aligned and integrated with the enterprise strategic priorities


  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of professional experience. In lieu of a degree an additional 2 years is acceptable
  • MBA or advanced degree is preferred
  • Experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, corporate development, investment banking, finance or related fields
  • A global innovative mindset and a passion for innovation - a risk taker that embodies the Innovation mindset and can think like an entrepreneur
  • Ability to shape and drive strategic agendas, inclusive of strategic visioning, expert data synthesis, and high-profile communications (compelling, high impact storyteller)
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, provide project management expertise, and to manage multiple projects at once
  • Expert problem structuring and strategic problem-solving skills
  • Self-directed and comfortable working in ambiguous environments
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience in innovation, manufacturing or product creation desired
  • Ability to work through macro and micro situations/complexity
  • Create white space for innovation and risk taking
  • Have a strong bias for action
